Dentures are very helpful for patients who may be missing some or all of their natural teeth. Often times, no one can tell that you even have dentures since they’re made to look just like natural teeth. You can be confident with your dentures knowing that your smile looks bright and beautiful!
While there are different types of dentures available like full dentures or implant-supported dentures, the main thing you want to remember is to keep them clean! Dentures require daily care, just like natural teeth, so you need to make sure they’re getting the proper cleaning treatment.
Helpful tips for cleaning your dentures are as follows:
After eating, remove and rinse your dentures. When eating, excess food particles may stick to the dentures, which is something you want to try your best and avoid. To limit any excess food particles, be sure to remove your dentures and run water over them. Afterwards, you can put your dentures back in place and continue on with your day.
Clean your mouth out after removing your dentures. By doing this, it can be helpful to limit the amount of bacteria that resides in the mouth. You can use a soft-bristled toothbrush on natural teeth and gauze or a soft toothbrush to clean your tongue, cheeks and roof of the mouth.
Brush your dentures at least once each day. It may be useful to use a special brush made specifically for dentures, but you can also use a soft-bristled toothbrush paired with a non-abrasive denture cleanser. If you use denture adhesive, be sure to remove any excess adhesive remaining on the dentures.
Be sure to soak your dentures overnight. Most kinds of dentures need to be kept moist in order to maintain their shape. To help with this, you should keep your dentures in solution containing water and a mild denture cleaner. Check with your dentist to see what denture cleaners may work best.
